Sr. Beavers win first provincial title in more than 20 years

Gregoire said players being worn out from league play may have contributed to provincial losses over the years, but they were able to play through it with some extra motivation after falling short in the league final.

“We’d either still be playing league finals while provincials were going on, or it would be right after league finals were done. It was one of those things where the arms were getting tired, and it was just nice that we could finally get it done.”

When discussing the team’s play throughout the tournament, Gregoire said the Beavers performed well across the board rather than relying on either hitting or fielding to carry the load.

“We mitigated any defensive breakdowns, had good timely hits and really great pitching. So, we couldn’t ask for a better weekend from the guys.”

As the Beavers capped the season with a provincial title, Gregoire thanked everyone who supported the team throughout the summer.

“Thanks to all our fans. We had really great support. We definitely remember the last couple of series; we had great support. We would like to thank the City of North Battleford for its maintenance of the ball diamond all season, trying to keep it as clean as possible with all the rain we had,” he said.

“At the end of the day, we really appreciate the support we have from the community here and are glad we can finally bring that medal back to them.”
