North Stars trade for forward Michiel Leenders from Beaver Valley Nitehawks
The Battlefords North Stars have added their first new player to the roster this off-season, acquiring Calgary-born forward Michiel Leenders from the Beaver Valley Nitehawks of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
Last season, Leenders appeared in 42 games, scoring 53 points with 23 goals and 30 assists. The left-handed forward was also more than a point per game in the Nitehawks’ playoff run last year, scoring 16 points with five goals and 11 assists in 15 games.
“We have a pretty deep core coming back in our forward group, and we were meticulous about the kind of guy we wanted to put in the mix. We did our homework and Michiel’s a guy that came on our radar,” said North Stars head coach and general manager Connor Logan.
“Very dynamic, good skater, great shot, wants to play with the puck. Success essentially everywhere he’s gone, so there was a lot of intrigue from us.”
