Saskatchewan residents and visitors are being encouraged to explore the province’s parks during Sask Parks Week, running July 12 to 18.

The week-long celebration culminates with Canada’s Parks Day on July 18, a national initiative led by the Canadian Parks Council that promotes nature through educational, hands-on and family-friendly activities across the country.

Events are planned at parks throughout Saskatchewan, including concerts presented through the Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA).

Matt Johner will perform at Meadow Lake Provincial Park on July 16, while Shayne Lazarowich takes the stage at Makwa Lake Provincial Park on July 17.

On July 18, Amy Nelson will perform at The Battlefords Provincial Park and Darryl Anderson will perform at Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Duck Mountain will also host its Winter Fun in the Sun event that day.

The Lakeside Legacy Festival takes place at Candle Lake Provincial Park on July 25. The event celebrates the park’s 40th anniversary and includes crafts, sand castle competitions, a cupcake celebration, geocaching and a SCMA concert at 7 p.m. when Jackfish Reunion will take the stage.

Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross said Sask Parks Week offers an opportunity for people to reconnect with Saskatchewan’s natural spaces.

“Whether you stay a full week or just a day, we invite residents to experience everything our parks have to offer from the trails to the beaches, to the special events,” Ross said.

Visitors can also borrow free Recreation Packs featuring activities such as disc golf, birding, beach adventures and campsite games.

A complete schedule of events is available through the Sask Parks events calendar.
