Jun 30, 2026 | 8:57 AM

A man who stopped to help what appeared to be a stranded vehicle near Cando ended up in hospital after he was shot by the truck’s driver.

RCMP said the incident happened around 3:45 a.m. on June 27, when the man noticed a truck stopped on the side of a road near Cando and approached to see whether its occupants needed assistance.

The driver got out of the truck, discharged a firearm and injured the man before getting back into the vehicle and fleeing the area.

“The male was taken to hospital and reported non-life-threatening injuries to police.”

RCMP said the truck had two men at the time of the shooting. The passenger is described as tall and was wearing a face covering. Police said they do not have further details about the driver.

Investigators described the suspect vehicle as a dark-coloured Dodge truck and are working to identify and locate those involved.

“Battlefords RCMP continue to investigate.”

Battlefords RCMP are asking anyone with information about the shooting, or who witnessed suspicious activity in the Cando area during the early morning hours of June 27, to contact police by calling 310-RCMP. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
