“It was long weekends and a bunch of time in the studio,” she said.

The audition process was intense. Hennings had just 48 hours to learn six different dance routines before recording and submitting them for evaluation.

“It was definitely hard and like nothing I’ve done before. It was a challenge for me, but I’m glad that I learned it.”

In Poland, Hennings will perform in two group dances, a solo routine and a duet alongside dancers from across the country. The team will also work with a new Team Canada choreographer to prepare new routines ahead of the competition.

“They will pick who goes into the semi-finals and the finals, and that will all happen in Poland,” Hennings explained.

For the young dancer, the chance to represent both Canada and her hometown makes the experience even more meaningful.

“I just feel special because not a lot of people even know about this small town,” she said.

Competing on an international stage will be a new experience for Hennings, who plans to spend the next several months continuing to train and prepare for the competition.
