Lloydminster apprentices to benefit from new cross-border training agreement
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed between the governments of Saskatchewan and Alberta to introduce cross-border apprenticeship registration.
This will support Saskatchewan-based heavy-duty equipment technician apprentices employed in Lloydminster, allowing them to register as Alberta apprentices and attend training in Saskatchewan.
“Saskatchewan has a long-standing cooperative relationship with Alberta, and we are proud to sign this MOU that will allow Saskatchewan residents in Lloydminster the opportunity to access the training they need while remaining closer to home,” said Sask. Immigration and Career Training Minister Eric Schmalz.
He said this agreement also ensures Saskatchewan employers are not at a disadvantage when hiring in the region, which will help secure a more stable labour force within the heavy-duty equipment technician trade.
