Battlefords area golf courses prepare for the upcoming season

Apr 22, 2026 | 8:53 AM

While the weather hasn’t permitted it yet, courses around the Battlefords are preparing for opening day with the season around the corner.

North Battleford Golf and Country Club

Like all the courses around the area, North Battleford Golf and Country Club (NBGCC), a 6,600-yard par 72/74 has been weathering the snow in recent weeks while preparing for the upcoming season.

“The guys outside do a heck of a job trying to get everything ready,” said Dana Johnson, director of golf at NBGCC. “Everybody’s anxious and the pro shop is open if they want to come out and get their membership and see all the latest in golf clubs.”

NBGCC does not have an opening date set but have had late-April openings in past years.

A new feature for NBGCC this season is online bookings, with public bookings now available online.

“They get five days in advance. That will be hooked up on our website right when we open, which is awesome,” said Johnson.

The course will have club fittings available with demo days throughout the season.

NBGCC will host various tournaments throughout the season. The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce tournament in May, the BUH foundation Walter Pruden tournament on June 1, as well as a Saskatchewan PGA assistant, women and seniors’ championship on June 23-24.

They will also have junior swing classes close to the start of the season, on May 9-10 and 16-17. More information about the season is available on https://www.northbattlefordgolf.com/.

Jackfish Lodge Golf Course

Jackfish Lodge Golf Course, a 6,562-yard par 71/73 course on Jackfish Lake in Cochin, hopes for a May. 1 opening day, but don’t yet have anything set in place.

“Mother Nature needs to cooperate, but unfortunately it hasn’t this year,” said club general manager Kyle Kellgren. “The weather looks like it’s changing, but it is what it is. Once we can get on the course, we’ll start prepping it and getting it ready for the customers.”

The course is doing First Nations scrambles during the season and will be the host course for the Tony Cote First Nation’s 2026 Summer Games.

On top of that, the course will be hosting their share of competitive and charity tournaments during the summer.

“We’ve got a lot more tournaments than normal booked. It’s going to be a good summer,” said Kellgren. “We have the Humane Society, the RCMP coming out. Then like I said, a lot of competitive First Nations tournaments.”

Jackfish Lodge will also be hosting their men’s and women’s nights starting after the May long weekend on alternate Thursdays.

“We’re really excited about the new season, and the golf course so far looks really good, and we’re excited to get going,” Kellgren said.

Rustic Nine Golf Course

Rustic Nine Golf Course is a par three, nine-hole golf course on the north end of North Battleford, offering golf as well as events in their barn venue.

They have a tentative opening date set for May 3, which is not yet confirmed. “We’re looking forward to another great season of golf and events on the golf course and the barn as well,” said owner/operator Elaine Liebaert.

The course is continuing their hole-in-one challenge this season, with a current jackpot of $3,000 heading into the year.

The challenge will run on Tuesday’s from 5 p.m. until dusk. Participants will have five shots to get a hole-in-one on their seventh hole. It costs $20 to enter, with half of the cost going towards the pot and the other half going to Safe Families Canada Battlefords.

Rustic Nine will also offer private bookings for the course, as well as live music and weddings in their barn venue.

More information about Rustic Nine throughout the season will be available on https://rusticnine.ca/.

Meota and District Lakeside Golf Course

Meota and District Lakeside Golf Course is looking at a potential May 8 opening, but that isn’t set in stone as they continue to prepare for the season.

“It’s a lot of cleaning and prep and getting things ready,” said clubhouse manager Terry Hubbs.

“The greens have just started to get uncovered to get some sun on them, so they can start growth again. There’s still some snow on the golf course, so we do have a target date that’s going to be dictates to us by Mother Nature.”

The course offers a men’s night every Tuesday with pins and skins competitions on alternate Tuesdays, as well as a women’s night on Wednesdays. Both of those will have a 6 p.m. shotgun starting with a dinner served afterwards.

Their big tournament of the year will be on July 3 when they host their Farmers tournament.

“It’s just going to be a friendly place to come and play a round of golf and socialize with your friends and neighbors,” said Hubbs. “Come on out and play and have a good time. That’s what we’re all about. Just having some fun.”

Meota Golf information can be found on https://meotagolf.com/index.html.

As the season approaches, opening dates are still tentative, but golfers look to be able to hit the links in May.
