As the parade wrapped up, attention shifted to a packed schedule of events taking place throughout the week.

“Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we have the chariot and chuck wagons. There’s two shows daily,” Beland said. “Thursday and Friday we have Indian Relay at 6:00 p.m. Then we have the light horse schedule and all the performances on Thursday and Friday; it starts at 9:00 a.m. and runs all day.”

Along with the horse events, families can expect a wide range of entertainment across the grounds, including the midway, a foam pit party, music from DJ Trizzy, Dr. Von Houligan’s circus stage show, Sleepy the Clown, the Bubble Lady, a petting zoo and several food booths.

Beland said putting together Northwest Territorial Days is a year-round effort that relies heavily on volunteers. Planning begins shortly after one fair ends, with organizers booking the midway, preparing the grounds and co-ordinating horse events well in advance.

“It takes a lot of volunteers to help organize the chuck wagons and chariots and get them here, get the grounds ready to hold the horses and the wagons. It takes lots of time, but everybody seems to be happy and likes to help and volunteer.”

Advance bracelet sales have also shown strong interest in this year’s fair. Organizers started with about 1,000 bracelets and had roughly 250 remaining at the beginning of the week.

With a full schedule ahead, Beland said Northwest Territorial Days remains one of the Battlefords’ signature summer events, combining generations of fair tradition with new attractions aimed at keeping people coming back year after year.
