North Stars playoff scenarios as they finish off regular season against Kindersley

Mar 13, 2026 | 12:12 PM

The final game of the regular season comes tonight for the Battlefords North Stars as they take on the Kindersley Klippers.

It’s ticket redemption night, meaning fans can use any unused ticket from the entire season for tonight’s game.

The North Stars are coming off an 8-5 win against the Klippers in Kindersley. The win clinched home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs and eliminated the Klippers from playoff contention.

With the standings as tight as they are, the North Stars could still finish anywhere between 2nd and 4th place in the SJHL, so they still don’t know who they will be playing in the first round of the playoffs.

With there still being so many moving pieces, every single game around the league for the remainder of the season, except for Flin Flon vs. La Ronge and Humboldt vs. Warman, has implications on who the North Stars could play in the first round.

The North Stars finish in second and face the Melville Millionaires in the first round IF:

Battlefords wins vs Kindersley AND Yorkton loses at least one game vs Melville

OR

Battlefords loses vs Kindersley in regulation AND Yorkton loses both games vs Melville if both games aren’t in overtime

OR

Battlefords loses vs Kindersley in overtime AND Yorkton loses at least one game vs Melville in regulation OR loses both games vs Melville in overtime

The North Stars finish in third and face the Melfort Mustangs in the first round IF:

Battlefords wins vs Kindersley AND Yorkton wins both games vs Melville

OR

Battlefords loses vs Kindersley in regulation AND Yorkton wins at least one game vs Melville AND Weyburn loses at least one game vs Estevan

OR

Battlefords loses vs Kindersley in regulation AND Yorkton loses both games vs Melville in overtime AND Weyburn loses at least one game vs Estevan

OR

Battlefords loses vs Kindersley in overtime AND Yorkton wins both games vs Melville OR wins one game and loses one in overtime AND Weyburn loses at least one game vs Estevan

The North Stars finish in fourth place and play the Nipawin Hawks in the first-round if

Battlefords loses vs Kindersley in regulation AND Yorkton wins at least one game vs Melville AND Weyburn wins both games vs Estevan

OR

Battlefords loses vs Kindersley in regulation AND Yorkton loses both games vs Melville in overtime AND Weyburn wins both games vs Estevan

To try and simplify things, the North Stars clinch at least third place with a win tonight. If they do, their fate depends on the two-game series between the Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires.

The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m. with the Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey broadcast on CJNB/CJNS.
