North Stars survive third period surge, take down La Ronge Ice Wolves 7-6
After taking a four-goal lead into the third period, the Battlefords North Stars allowed a comeback attempt from the La Ronge Ice Wolves but held on for the 7-6 win. With the Flin Flon Bombers win over the Estevan Bruins, the North Stars (24-8-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) remain two points behind Flin Flon for the top spot in the SJHL.
Kobe Sawyer got the North Stars on the board first at the 3:37 mark of the opening frame. He went to the zone on the right side before puttin the puck off the post and in to make it 1-0 North Stars.
Later at 10:39 of the first, Dayton Tailfeathers scored on a one-timer in tight on the powerplay to tie the game at one for the Ice Wolves (7-25-3-1, 4th in UPL Division). It looked like the game was going to be tied until 42 seconds left in the frame when Sawyer finished off a passing play from Sam Kirwan and Adam Konowalchuk to put the North Stars up 2-1 to close out the opening frame.
