Battlefords North Stars back on the road for a contest with the Humboldt Broncos

The Battlefords North Stars are trying to get back into the win column tonight when they face the Humboldt Broncos on the road in a Nutrien Division matchup.

While the North Stars (22-8-3-2, first in Nutrien Division) remain undefeated in regulation in 2026, they fell 6-5 in overtime to the Warman Wolverines on Jan. 17 when Wolverines captain Vincent Palmarin scored the overtime winner.

Against Warman, the North Stars got a goal from five different players including Josh Knittig who scored in his third straight game. With the goal, Knittig extended his league-high point streak to 12 games dating back to Nov. 28, 2025. In those 12 games, Knittig has 19 points (7G-12A).

Knittig’s 38 point total this season (15G-23A) is second on the North Stars only behind Anthony Campbell with 39 (14G-25A). Defenceman Gavin Granger sits in third on the team in points with 31 (5G-26A).

The Broncos (17-15-1-1, third in Nutrien Division) are trying to get their second straight victory after taking down the Melville Millionaires, 3-0 on the road on Saturday. Tyce Penrod had a two-point game in that game while Broncos goalie Brady Holtvogt had a 26 save shutout.

The last time the North Stars and Broncos faced off was the weekend of Nov. 21-22, 2025, when the North Stars swept the weekend series with 4-3 and 2-1 wins. That weekend, Finlay Klippenstein led the way for the North Stars with three goals across two games.

Both teams have made moves since then. However, the Broncos lineup has changed a lot more with Jacob Strizzi, Connor Miller, Ryder Knutson, Charlie Tritt, Brock Inglis and Jeter Korte all out the door.

As the season moves forward, these games gain importance for both teams in the standings. Sitting in the eighth seed, the Broncos are battling for their playoff lives. They are tied in points with the Melville Millionaires at 36, and just two points behind the Kindersley Klippers who sit in seventh place.

The second place North Stars are in the fight for first in the SJHL. A win would put them within two points of the Flin Flon Bombers for the league’s top spot. The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m., Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey begins at 7:30 on CJNB/CJNS.
