BGC Battleford receives $20K donation to help fund programs

Nov 19, 2025 | 6:00 AM

BGC Battlefords has received a boost from the local community to support the club’s programs and services.

Battlefords Hotel Association presented a cheque for $20,000 to the club on Tuesday. Each hotel involved in the association contributes one per cent of its revenues monthly, giving back to local tourism.

Usually, these donations go to events in the community, including sports tournaments and the Rodeo Finals, but the association believed the club was a great fit.

Darin Manegre, co-owner and operator of Comfort Inn and Suites, said there are many reasons as to why the association chose BGC.

“It’s one of the best-run programs, charities in the community, helping out the kids and keeping them off the streets. This is a great place to come and it’s a great program,” said Manegre.

Along with Manegre, Kelly Fluney with Gold Eagle Lodge and Kyle Kellgren with Jack Fish Lodge, presented the cheque.

Nicole Combres, executive director of BGC Battlefords, said the donation will go directly to supporting youth in the community.

“It’s donations like this that really help keep our organization going, doors open, food on the tables, things like our power on, our water running. It takes a lot of money to operate an organization like ours, and especially to operate to the extent that we do,” said Combres.

BGC hosted a sold-out crowd for their 25th annual gala which helped raise funds for the organization. BGC has not released the amount of earnings from the night but said they exceeded their fundraising goal of $75,000.

“I would just really like to thank our community, both our gala event and the donation that we received today from the hotel association. It just reaffirms the generous community that I am privileged to work and live in,” said Combres.

BGC recognizes that its community members and local businesses that help the organization run every day and make it possible to help families in the Battlefords.
