North Stars snap three game skid, take down Terriers 4-1 at home

Nov 8, 2025 | 12:36 AM

In an emotion filled game, the Battlefords North Stars (7-4-2-2, 3rd in Nutrien division) got the best of the Yorkton Terriers (9-8-0-1, 3rd in Bunge division) taking them down 4-1.

After Terriers captain Rylan Henrikson went to the box for roughing, North Stars captain Anthony Campbell made the Terriers pay on the powerplay. He took a pass across the ice from Josh Knittig before burying it glove side on Terriers goaltender Callum Creig. The North Stars went into the second period up 1-0.

Just over three minutes into the second, Austin Horbachewsky caught Kaleb Dewar high with a hit. Gavin Granger immediately came to the defence of his teammates and dropped the gloves with Horbachewsky before taking him to the ground. Both players got five minutes for fighting and a game misconduct.

22 seconds later, Alessio Nardelli found a streaking Josh Knittig in front and Knittig tipped it past Creig to make it a 2-0 game. After the goal, William Leonard slashed Knittig on the leg in frustration. He was penalized for the slash, and the North Stars went to the power play.

Once again, it was Campbell who got on the board on the power play, scoring a one-timer off a cross-ice pass from Josh Knittig to put the North Stars up 3-0, all in the first five minutes of the second period.

Just over halfway through the frame, Sebastian Miles laid out Mikale Budz in the corner and Jake Briltz dropped the gloves with Miles. After a spirited tilt at centre ice, Miles took Briltz down, and they both left the game with a fighting major and a game misconduct.

After losing two defencemen, the North Stars were down to four defence for the remainder of the game.

The Terriers were all over the North Stars to start the third period, but the the North Stars got an opportunity just over five minutes into the period when Carter Geysen got on a 2-on-1 with Kobe Sawyer. Geysen elected to shoot and made no mistake, slotting it past Creig to make it 4-0.

Before the halfway point of the period, Ryder McDonald scored top shelf on Steele Bass to spoil the North Stars shutout bid. That was the only goal the Terriers could get in the third, and the North Stars took it 4-1 despite having just four defencemen for a significant portion of the game.

After the game, North Stars assistant coach Owen Lamb gave praise to his defenceman for doing a good job with their minutes as well as the forward group for really buying in defensively.

“Played a little bit simpler, pinched less just to minimize their skating, and they did great…it worked out well. Those guys were really good at adapting,” said Lamb. “[The forwards] helped out our D, they were coming back hard on the backcheck. Helping in the puck battles on the wall, and they made it a little easier on our D for sure.”

North Stars goaltender Steele Bass stopped 32 of 33 shots in the contest. “He looked great all week in practice. He earned that start tonight, and he was solid in there. Really proud of the kid tonight,” said Lamb.

The North Stars play the Terriers once again on Saturday at the Access Communications Centre. The Ultra Print Services pregame show begins at 1:30 pm, while Napa Auto Parts North Stars Hockey begins at 2:00 on 93.3 Beach Radio.
