North Stars drop third straight, lose 7-6 in overtime to the Nipawin Hawks
The Battlefords North Stars (6-4-2-2, 3rd in Nutrien Division) went to their second straight overtime game, dropping it 7-6 to the Nipawin Hawks (10-5-1-0, 1st in UPL division).
Nipawin got on the board first when Finley Radloff took a pass in tight and slotted it past North Stars goaltender Kaeden Serpa to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead about halfway into the first period. A couple minutes later, Carter Geysen scored for the North Stars on a similar play on the powerplay, to tie the game up at one.
The Hawks took a 2-1 lead into the second period after Tiernan Ryan scored with less than five minutes to go in the frame.
Early in the second period, Sam Kirwan got his first goal in the SJHL after receiving a great feed from Kobe Sawyer in front and putting the puck into the yawning cage. Just 32 seconds later, Nipawin took the lead back courtesy of Eric Hoiness who sprung behind the North Stars defence before taking a pass on the edge of the crease and scoring.
