Moe says new Legislative Assembly will meet for first time on Nov. 25

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says the province’s new Legislative Assembly will gather for the first time in Regina on November 25.

The fall sitting is expected to run for two weeks, which the provincial government said will allow time for the Throne Speech and the introduction of “several pieces of legislation, including bills required to fulfill the government’s campaign commitments.”

The session will begin with the election of a speaker, followed by the Throne Speech from Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty.

Moe will enter the new session with a diminished Sask. Party benches, after his party won another majority in the October 25 election, but dropped 14 seats to the Saskatchewan NDP opposition.

The Sask. Party will hold 34 seats in the new assembly, while Carla Beck’s NDP will hold 27.

Moe addressed the results of the election in a statement on Thursday morning.

“Saskatchewan people elected a government with a mandate for a strong economy and a bright future, but we also know that many people voted for change and we will deliver both,” Moe said.

“The new Legislature provides an opportunity for a new beginning, and we won’t waste any time getting to work on the priorities of residents.”

Moe said the government will head into the new session with a focus on bringing about “much-needed improvements in the areas of health care and education,” while also addressing both affordability issues and pushing forward with economic growth.

“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to govern for all residents regardless of who they voted for,” Moe said.
