Nov 12, 2024 | 5:11 PM

Election Day is almost here and polls open at 9 a.m.

This year, 1,141 votes have been cast during advanced polling. According to a release, elections officials are encouraging people to use their rights and make their voices heard. In 2020, there was an 18.9 per cent turnout representing a grand total of 2,366 voters in North Battleford.

Election Day will feature one polling station, located at the Access Communications Centre, 1902-104th Street and will run until 8 p.m. Voting stations will be set up in the auditorium in the lower level.

The release said parking is available near the ACC and there will also be transit running on nearby routes.

To vote, residents are asked to review the election rules on the city’s website. Voters may cast their choices for one mayor and six candidates. The official results of the election will be announced on November 14.

“Tonight is primarily encouraging people to go vote tomorrow if they haven’t already,” said Donald Meriam, North Battleford council candidate.

“It’s important they exercise their right to vote in all elections…whether they agree with me or feel another candidate is fit for election[or] re-election,” he added, referring to voting at all levels of government.

In Meadow Lake, Mayor Merlin Seymour said regardless of who the new council is made up of, he looks forward to working with them all.

“We have a lot of exciting projects current being worked on and looking forward to continuing providing our residents with services and opportunities within Meadow Lake.”
