‘I’m human’: Kelli Hawtin re-announces mayoral bid

After being inundated with emails, phone calls and texts asking her to reconsider running, Kelli Hawtin has now re-announced her candidacy for Mayor of the City of North Battleford.

“I gave it some thought, and I was able to consider what my life plans and family plans looked like, and it does seem like the right time,” she said.

Last week she had withdrawn her candidacy citing concerns with balancing her business and family commitments. Hawtin, who is currently a city councillor explained the support has been strong and she has no concerns over the way her final choice was made.

“I’m human just like everybody else and sometimes big decisions require a lot of careful consideration,” said Hawtin.

“It’s OK to change a person’s mind, it’s OK that I had to go through this process to come to this decision.”

In her reannouncement message, Hawtin spoke to having over a decade of service in municipal government and her “deep commitment to serving the community.”

Her statement supported her belief that to be effective, people must work together and be able to listen.

“I’m just hoping to have a good, honest campaign,” she said.

“I think it’s really important that somebody stepping into the mayor’s chair has experience with municipal governance – understands the process, understands how we do things.”

As per the statement, her campaign will focus on utilizing her experience to help create economic development and sustainable options to help the community.

Hawtin was originally elected to city council in a by-election in 2014.
