A man and woman from Pelican Lake were arrested over a week ago in Meadow Lake after police searched a vehicle and found a paintball gun modified to shoot bullets.

RCMP Crime Reduction Team members were at an active investigation on Second Street in Meadow Lake on July 20 and found a woman wanted on a warrant getting out of a vehicle outside of the residence.

When officers arrested her, they say she initially gave them a wrong name. The man who was with her also tried to stop officers from approaching the vehicle.

After both were arrested, officers found what looked to be a paintball gun and some ammunition inside the vehicle.

A closer look showed the illegal modifications to the gun.

Courtney Bill, age 27, and Billy Whitehead, age 29 were both arrested and charged with possessing a prohibited weapon, unlawfully transporting a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Bill is also charged with obstruction and was arrested on her outstanding warrant from Spiritwood for not attending court.

Whitehead is also charged with three more counts of having a gun contrary to an order and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Both accused appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on July 22, 2024.
