North Stars look to end losing skid against Melfort

Oct 28, 2026 | 12:54 PM

The Battlefords North Stars are on the road today to take on the Melfort Mustangs.

The North Stars (2-9-0-1, fourth in the Nutrien Division) are looking to snap a league-high eight-game losing streak and avoid losing nine straight for the first time since the 2008-09 regular season.

The North Stars have struggled offensively during the skid, scoring just 12 goals in eight games for an average of 1.5 goals per game.

In their last game, the North Stars fell 7-2 on the road to the Yorkton Terriers.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs (9-4-0-1, first in the UPL Division) have won three straight games.

Their most recent win was a 3-2 victory over the Weyburn Red Wings in Weyburn.

Defenceman Damien Wiebe could make his North Stars debut after the team recently acquired him from the Drayton Valley Thunder of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for a player development fee.

Finlay Klippenstein leads the North Stars in scoring heading into the game, with four goals and five assists for nine points in 12 games.

Former North Star Dru Mushumanski leads the Mustangs in scoring with four goals and 15 assists for 19 points in 14 games, placing him sixth in league scoring.

The matchup wraps up a five-game road trip for the North Stars, who have not played at home since Oct. 10.

The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m., with puck drop for NAPA Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 p.m. on 1050 CJNB and 102.3 CJNS.
