UPDATE: City of North Battleford closes all rec facilities due to weather

UPDATE: The City of North Battleford said that recreational facilities remain closed.

Heading into Monday, it’s expected that poor road conditions will impact the ability of staff to get into work at these facilities.

The City haid that crews are still working on snow removal at each of the facilities as well and they anticipate some interruptions in City facilities Monday morning.

“The facilities will likely be fully open by the afternoon, but we encourage patrons call ahead to the respective facilities to ensure they are able to access them,” the City said in a release.

The City of North Battleford announced on Sunday morning that all recreational facilities will be closed for the day due to the poor weather hitting the city.

The closure affects any and all facilities within the community, including the Access Communications Centre, Don Ross Arena, Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre, Don Ross Community Centre, NationsWEST Field House, and both the Chapel Gallery and Allen Sapp Gallery.

Across the river, the Town of Battleford has not announced the closure of any of its facilities as events are continuing as scheduled.

The winter storm is also having an effect on local businesses as Co-op announced both the Territorial and Railway liquor stores will keep their doors locked for the day. However, the company has said that there are minimal essential staff at all North Battleford Food and C-Store locations, as well as in Battleford, which all close at 6:00 p.m.

Co-op added that the Territorial gas bar has 24/7 pay at the pump as well as their Co-op Cardlock.

Highways coming in and going out of North Battleford were closed for the majority of the day as Environment Canada expects around 25-40 cm of snow to fall in the area. The snowy weather is expected to end on Monday morning.
