Trial dates have now been secured for a Saskatchewan court case involving an alleged medicine man, and the 12 counts of sexual assault he’s facing.

As per discussions held Friday during a pre-trial conference at Court of King’s Bench in Saskatoon, Cecil Wolfe’s trial is scheduled to start on Feb. 18, 2025 and run to March 28, 2025.

The Crown is proceeding by direct indictment so by default, the case will be tried by judge and jury.

The alleged offences occurred between 2013 and 2021, and police have previously indicated there were a number of victims from the communities of Loon Lake, Blaine Lake, Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Saskatoon and surrounding areas.

It was also alleged Wolfe was working under the “pretext of being a traditional healer or medicine man when (the alleged victims) encountered him.”

Guilty pleas were entered in April 2022, however, Wolfe changed his mind, dismissed his lawyer, and was successfully able to have his pleas expunged.

It was essentially up to his new lawyer to prove he was not properly informed, didn’t understand, or was under duress when he initially pleaded guilty.
