Late-game heroics lead North Stars past Hawks for weekend sweep
For the second time in as many nights, the Battlefords North Stars overcame an early 2-0 deficit to top the Nipawin Hawks in epic comeback fashion, this time 4-3 with the winner late, in Nipawin.
Kian Bell led the way for the North Stars with a pair of goals and an assist, while first-year standouts Rylan Williams and Brayden Sinclair each cashed in for their ninth of the season late in regulation for the tying (Williams) and winning (Sinclair) goals.
Hawks’ forwards Finley Radloff and Artem Hrabovetskyi scored the lone goals of the first period to give Nipawin a 2-0 lead to put the home-side in the driver’s seat early.
However, midway through the second, Bell’s first of the game and 14th of the year got the North Stars on the board in response, deflecting home an Alex Izyk shot from the point to cut the deficit in half to 2-1 midway through the middle frame.
