northeastNOW will be publishing profiles of all three candidates for Mayor of Nipawin in advance of the forum chaired by the Nipawin & District Chamber of Commerce on Oct 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nipawin Seniors Hall. Election day is October 18.

Laura Nycholat has a big-city drive anchored to small-town values and a high sense of duty. She forgives fast, has political candour, and has an aptitude for results that are centred around a giving and positive mindset.

Her hard work, dedication, and can-do attitude have empowered Laura to find her own way in life. This dedication paid for travel to more than 30 countries, a bachelor’s in international business, and a handful of certificates that are anchored to a 16-year Professional Human Resource Certification in good standing. She has worked for leading energy and agriculture corporations including Agrium (Nutrien), Syncrude, and Federated Co-op, with signature Deloitte Consulting experience, and 11 years of work experience with one of North America’s leading energy pipeline infrastructure companies. Laura graduated from Nipawin and has lived in Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Liege (Belgium), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Lampman.

Laura Nycholat is a creative problem solver – allowing her to see patterns and act on solutions with confidence and integrity. With compassion for individuals and their unique life challenges, Laura is well positioned to develop and lead strategies that empower Nipawin to rise up in leading culture and community and move the needle to reconciliation. Skilled at integrating strategic objectives into policy and best practices, she has a robust toolkit that reinforces confidence to navigate policy while holding the best interests of our community in a neutral way.

Her charity, Rise Up Community Foundation is part of her movement for positivity and an empowered community. The Foundation aims to find creative ways to bring funding into the community for issues of the day. Currently, RiseUp supports groups that are “lost in the cracks” such as a Dog Park, Women looking for positivity and connection, COPP, The Haywire Farm Festival, Culture Days, and Nourishing our Neighbours in a way that doesn’t cost the community any additional money.
