A year after Ariel Kouakou disappeared, family still seeking answers

Mar 12, 2019 | 9:15 AM

MONTREAL — One year to the day after a young boy disappeared in north-end Montreal, his photo is being widely distributed in hopes of drumming up new information.

Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou never returned home after setting out on foot to visit a friend on March 12, 2018.

The search for 10-year-old Ariel gripped the city, and today and Wednesday his photo is appearing on electronic screens in the city’s 68 subway stations. The photo will also appear on envelopes used for the monthly mailing of CIBC Visa bills in May.

The Missing Children’s Network’s Pina Arcamone says it is hoped the initiatives will shed some light on the case and provide answers to Ariel’s family.

Ariel left home a year ago to visit a friend who lived nearby, but there was nobody home. Surveillance cameras captured him entering a park on the banks of the Riviere des Prairies, but he was never seen leaving the park.

A mass is scheduled for later this evening at Saint-Joseph-de-Bordeaux church in the north-end Ahuntsic-Cartierville neighbourhood.
