Two long-standing staff members at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster (BBBS) were honoured with Queen’s Jubilee Medals recently.

Brenda Robinson, executive director, and Jacqueline Weed, director of service delivery, were among 50 Lloydminster and area residents recognized with Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medals during a ceremony in Lloydminster on Jan. 15.

“Both have been dedicated and integral parts of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster for 20 years, and during this time, their passion, hard work and commitment have been truly unparalleled. They not only play a key role in the growth and success of our organization, but also consistently go above and beyond to make a positive impact in the lives of others,” BBBS of Lloydminster board chair John Stevens said in a release.

For Weed, her role with BBBS entails looking after screening, and training, as well as the matching of all the volunteers and the families.

“I get to experience the wonderful results from those matching relationships,” she told battlefordsNOW. “And, also since COVID, I’ve been looking after fundraising as well.”

Weed said she appreciates being selected for a Jubilee Medal.

“It was very humbling,” she said. “I just think of it as – I come to work every day, do my job, and try to provide the relationships for the families and the kids that we work with. So, [the award] was quite a surprise, and an honour.”

Robinson was also touched to be recognized for her years of dedicated service, helping many youth and families.

“This was a great honour to be able to receive the award for contributions in the community,” she said. “It is a fantastic list of people that have been honoured. I’m sure I can speak on behalf of everyone. We are so glad to have the opportunity to make a difference for the lives of the people in our community and surrounding areas.”
