Chamber of Commerce gets ready for chair’s luncheon

Jan 9, 2023 | 2:56 PM

The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce is getting geared up to host the 117th Annual Chair’s Luncheon.

The event will take place at the Beaver Grill Express restaurant at InnovationPlex in North Battleford on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

The highlight of the ceremony will be the induction of the incoming 2023 chair of the board of directors. Kayla Petersen, of Century 21 Prairie Elite, the current vice-chair of the chamber’s board, will now step up to the role of chair.

Outgoing chair, Derek Schmidt, of Bill and Don’s Men’s Wear, will also have an opportunity to speak to guests, and officially pass the gavel to the new chair, as part of the tradition.

“I’m always sad to see the outgoing chair complete their term. It’s been a very good year working with Derek,” chief operating officer Linda Machniak said. “And, I always look forward to working with the new chairs. Kayla and I have known each other for awhile, and I look forward to working with her.”

Also during the event, City of North Battleford’s economic development manager, Jan Swanson, the guest speaker, will discuss his 2023 plans ahead for the city.

“I think everybody is looking forward to his comments and remarks,” Machniak said. “He is new in his position. We are looking forward to hearing from him, … and what growth and development he hopes to see in the city.”

AGM coming next month

The chamber plans to holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in a separate event on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

The event will take place over the lunch hour in the board room at the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce site in North Battleford.

Last year the AGM was held as part of the chair’s induction to reduce the number of gatherings due to COVID-19 precautions. So this year the AGM will return to being offered as a stand-alone event for the chamber.

“The AGM is rooted in members getting together to discuss [chamber] matters, and to approve the financial statements and budgets,” Machniak said.
