City says no threat to general public in response to recent shootings

The City of North Battleford has been in contact with the RCMP about a series of violent incidents over the past week and does not believe the general public needs to be concerned about its safety.

Battlefords RCMP reported Dec. 14 that investigations are underway into five shootings in North Battleford, from Dec. 10-13 that started on the weekend, with one woman struck in the head and a man shot in the leg. Based on their preliminary information, investigators said the incidents may be gang-related.

In response to the recent acts of violence reported to police in North Battleford, the City of North Battleford has issued the following statement:

“The City of North Battleford supports the work of the RCMP to investigate recent incidents within our community,” the release said. “Police have specialized teams, including the Battlefords RCMP’s Gang Task Force Unit, investigating the events that have been reported over the past number of days. RCMP have confirmed to the city that they do not believe there is an imminent threat to the general public at this time. The City of North Battleford appreciates the prompt response and quick action of police.”
