Twin Rivers Curling Club announce sponsorship to celebrate 10th anniversary

North Battleford’s Twin Rivers Curling Club is partnering with the Battlefords Hotels Association in celebration of the club’s 10th anniversary in the community.

“This money will help us promote our events and bring even more people to the Battlefords,” Twin Rivers’ general manager Kathy McNinch said.

“This is the first year of this partnership with the Battlefords Hotels Association, in celebration of our 10th year of curling and they’re going to give us $10,000 to do some extra promotion for all the events we’re having this season.”

Those events will include a number of bonspiels and other training events the club will be hosting, including the upcoming Sturling Bonspiel Nov. 19, and the new-to-the-community, Open Bonspiel Dec. 2-3.

“We just thought that since this is our 10th year, we wanted to do something special, so we’re very grateful the Hotels Association was able to partner with us and we’re looking forward to it,” McNinch added.

The announcement only adds to what has been an electric start to the season at the club, with very strong registration numbers this year.

McNinch said whether it’s the daytime senior leagues or the evening leagues, they have seen a great turnout once again, of people wanting to return to the ice and enjoy the game at various ages.

“It’s been very busy. We have our Carol Christopher 50+ League which has always been very popular as one of our daytime leagues, and we also have the New Horizons on Tuesdays which is the other senior league and they’re full as well,” she said.

“Our evening leagues continue to be very well attended too, though we do have room in Mondays and Wednesdays if people still want to come out and curl.”

During the pandemic, the club moved to half-season registrations due to the uncertainty at the time surrounding the fate of a full season. However, even now with things back to normal, the option is something the club has continued to offer their league members for the flexibility it provides.

League members have the choice to register in the way best suitable for them, whether for the full season all at once, or by the first-half and second half, which McNinch said has really worked well for all involved.

“It’s kind of a mix, some people have registered for the full season, and others just for the half because they’re not sure what they’re going to be doing after Christmas so that kind of gives them the flexibility,” she said.

In addition to league play and the already scheduled bonspiels, the club is also currently planning a special 10th Anniversary event for some time in the new year, with more information to come as it becomes available.
