Case for man charged with killing mother back in court

Oct 19, 2022 | 4:09 PM

The case for a 45-year-old North Battleford man facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of his mother was back in court Wednesday.

Walter Geering’s appearance was waived. The court heard that Geering was previously referred for a psychiatric assessment. The Crown is now seeking a second opinion.

Defence lawyer Bill Archer said Geering consented to have a second assessment done.

Geering is next scheduled to return to court on Nov. 17 at 11 a.m.

According to the RCMP, police responded after receiving a report on June 22 of an injured individual at a home on 93rd Street in North Battleford. Officers and paramedics found a woman who was declared deceased.

She has since been identified as 72-year-old Beatrice Geering from North Battleford. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit confirmed the victim is the mother of the accused.
