THE QUEEN’S FUNERAL

Where and when you can watch the Queen’s funeral

Sep 18, 2022 | 10:00 AM

The death of Queen Elizabeth II appears to have struck a chord with millions around the world. Queen Elizabeth died Sept. 8 at age 96, after reigning for over 70 years. Thousands of people lined up, some for several hours to pay their respects while the queen lay in state over the last few days.

Many around Canada and the world are interested in watching the Queen’s funeral. The good news is there will be plenty of options. The bad news is for those in Saskatchewan, you will have to get up early. Most, if not all the networks in Canada, have plans to cover the funeral live on television as well as on their respective websites and mobile apps. Here’s a brief outline of what to expect (all times Saskatchewan).

  • 11:30 p.m. Sunday – The Queen’s lying in state ends
  • 4:00 a.m. Monday – The funeral service will begin at Westminster Abbey. This will be the first funeral for a monarch at the Abbey since the funeral of King George II in 1760.
  • 4:55 a.m. (time approximate) – Two minutes of silence will be observed at the funeral and throughout the United Kingdom.

After the two minutes of silence, the Queen’s coffin will travel from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace, by horse-drawn gun carriage. The Queen’s final resting place will be beside her husband Prince Philip. Prince Philip died in 2021, aged 99.
