Shooting incident results in arrest, search for second suspect

Aug 23, 2022 | 9:00 AM

A man from Saskatoon was arrested for firearm and assault charges, following a shooting incident last week.

Very early in the morning on Aug. 17, Cut Knife RCMP were called to assist EMS with a man who was injured from a gunshot wound while in his home. Officers found a 65-year-old victim being treated, who was then transported to North Battleford for non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation determined two men attended the residence looking for gas, entered the house and discharged a firearm at the victim before leaving in an unidentified vehicle.

Officers, with assistance from North Battleford General Investigative Services, Unity RCMP and community members, identified 23-year-old Dryden Bugler as the suspect responsible for firing the weapon. He was located at a residence in Little Pine First Nation on Saturday and charged with aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent.

Bugler appeared in court Monday. There are ongoing efforts from Cut Knife RCMP and other detachments to locate the other male involved in the incident.

Gun theft arrests

Two youths were arrested and charged with multiple offences, following a pursuit from Onion Lake RCMP that involved police dogs.

Friday afternoon, the detachment received a report of a residential break-in, where they learned four firearms were stolen. Later that day, officers arrested a 16-year-old youth from the area, charging him with breaking and entering and stealing a firearm.

Then on Saturday evening, Onion Lake RCMP got a call reporting an unwanted individual at a residence, where investigation found he was in possession of a firearm and had fled the residence.

With the assistance of Lloydminster RCMP Police Dog Services, the individual was located and arrested in a nearby forested area. Officers seized the firearm, which was one of the firearms reported as stolen the previous day. As a result, another male youth faces several charges, including:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence
  • Unlicensed possession of a firearm
  • Breach of a youth order
  • Failing to comply with a release order
  • Two counts of failing to comply with a release order

The youths cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Onion Lake RCMP are continuing to investigate this incident.
