Event planned for Aug. 12

Town looking for more entries for upcoming parade

Aug 9, 2022 | 12:04 PM

Those who want to participate in the Town of Battleford’s upcoming parade still have time to sign up.

Parks and Recreation manager, Jordan Schechtel, said while the deadline was actually Aug. 8, the town will still take registrations right up until the day of the event for last minute sign-ups.

“We just can’t guarantee where you may go in the line-up,” he said. “We are definitely hoping for more entries. That’s one of the reasons I want to get the word out.”

So far, there are about 40 entries registered, with room for many more.

Some of the attractions people can expect to see this year include miniature horses, the Shriners, some old classic cars and a bit of a variety of offerings from participants.

The route for the parade starts at the St. Vital track, goes down 22nd Street, and turns on First Avenue past the town hall. Then it makes its way back on 25th Street and heads to the St. Vital track again.

This is the first time the event was held since 2019 due to pandemic precautions, so Schechtel said it should be exciting to see.

The theme for the parade this year will be “Better Together.”

Schechtel is inviting people to wear their Better Together T-shirts if they choose, but more than anything else just come out and take in the event.

“It’s more just in recognition that COVID is hopefully behind us and people can gather again, get together and celebrate summer,” he said.

As a note, Schechtel reminds people there will be no fireworks this time after the parade.

“We decided not to do fireworks this year because there were a lot of events having fireworks this summer, so we [opted] not to do it for this go around.”

All the fun takes place Friday, Aug. 12 starting at 7 p.m.
