RCMP Report: Vehicle theft arrests

Jul 23, 2022 | 8:00 AM

A 31-year-old man arrested for driving stolen vehicles has been connected to another incident in the Battlefords.

Ken Morin faces multiple offences from a pair of investigations earlier in the week. Battlefords RCMP responded to a call from the 0-100 block of 22nd Street in Battleford on July 16. Cash, personal property and electronics were among items reported stolen.

The following evening, police got a report just before midnight of a suspicious male and vehicle in the industrial area of North Battleford. Once there, officers recovered two vehicles previously reported stolen, as well as property from the 22nd Street robbery.

Officially arrested on Monday, Morin appeared in court that day, facing identify fraud and three counts of possession of stolen property in relation to the recovery of the stolen vehicles. Additional charges are pending as the investigation is ongoing.

Tractor pursuit

Several other vehicle theft investigations in the Battlefords resulted in arrests this week, including one short-lived chase.

A stolen vehicle was located and stopped on Highway 16 west of North Battleford in the afternoon on July 18. After fleeing into the trees, the suspect then stole a tractor and side-by-side in the area in an attempt to escape.

“He broke into a business to steal the tractor, which lead to him being found quickly,” Sgt. Neil Tremblay said.

He was located by police again and arrested.

Twenty-two-year-old Damien Teichrib Tie-crib of Battleford was remanded into custody to appear on July 20. He was charged with possession of stolen property, as well as two counts each of theft over $5,000, breaking and entering and mischief.

More stolen vehicle arrests

A two-vehicle collision on July 17 in North Battleford also turned into an investigation and arrest. This occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. at 101st Street and 15th Avenue with one previously stolen vehicle being operated by an impaired driver.

As a result, a 16-year-old youth faces impaired driving, dangerous driving, breach of probation, possession of stolen property and driving while over .08. He was remanded in court and appeared Monday.

Back on July 14, police recovered a stolen vehicle on the 1100 block of 109th Street after it was observed driving in the area. Four occupants were located inside and taken into custody.

Two were later released without charges, while a 34-year-old male from Regina and a 25-year-old female from Edmonton are charged with possession of stolen property. The investigation is ongoing.

Consistent calls

Break-ins continue to remain a steady point of focus for the detachment. However, Tremblay said most incidents in recent months haven’t involved larger buildings.

“The pattern seems to be the same where the break-in occurs with other structures, like garages and sheds,” he said.

A few incidents of abandoned homes that were entered were situations where Tremblay said it was likely people were looking for shelter.

The detachment is also still looking for a stolen Acura from North Battleford. It was taken from a residence on the 1400 block of 103rd Street during a break-in on July 15. One or more suspects took several items before stealing two vehicles, one of which was later recovered. The red 2001 Acura (License 335-JCI) remains at large.

Other calls from the week include nine mental health investigations, four traffic collisions, two individuals charged with impaired driving, 37 various traffic charges, 85 disturbance calls, 21 other reported thefts, and 16 mischief investigations.

Anyone with information on any incident can contact the Battlefords RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
