Two teens have been arrested and a search is underway for multiple suspects, following an incident in North Battleford that left a man bloodied and hospitalized.

Police were investigating a suspicious person’s report on the 1900 block of 104th St. by the Access Communications Centre in North Battleford, early Tuesday morning. They found two men on the scene, with one saying the other had been assaulted. The victim, in his late 20s, had significant injuries to his head and face and an ambulance was called to the scene.

“The victim was transported to hospital and his injuries were quite significant,” Sgt. Neil Tremblay said. “Fortunately, his injuries were not as severe as originally thought, though still serious.”

The victim is reportedly recovering and has been released from hospital.”

RCMP later obtained video surveillance that was provided to battlefordsNOW, which shows the victim in a confrontation with another individual, amidst several teens in the vicinity surrounding them.

The situation then escalates when he is knocked to the ground and swarmed, with the others kicking him while he’s on the ground. At one point, two assailants go to pick up a bike and toss it at the victim, before continuing to kick him.

“This type of level of violence is rare,” Tremblay said. “It’s an elevated incident, for sure.”

Prior to going over that footage, police made two arrests. Later that morning, they found a person connected to the incident.

“He had a significant amount of blood on his clothing and additional information that came into light led to him being taken into custody,” Tremblay said.

A second youth was later identified and also arrested. The pair were released on several conditions and will appear in court on Sept. 8 for aggravated assault.

So far, Tremblay said the detachment has five suspects from the footage but hasn’t identified any of them. They are also getting a statement from the victim.

“At this stage, we don’t even know if he knew one, or two or any of the people involved, it’s too early to tell,” Tremblay said. “We think there might have been some knowledge of each other, but we’re not sure.”

Any of the individuals shown to be participating in the attack stand to face similar charges.
