Teams come out swinging in NSRBL playoffs

The bats have been off to a lively start early for many teams around the North Sask River Baseball League (NSRBL) this postseason.

Just one night after the #5 Standard Hill Lakers put up an 8-1 win over the #4 Meadow Lake Sox to open their best-of-three series, the trend continued with a workout of the bats in quarterfinal openers in North Battleford and Macklin, Tuesday.

The #2 North Battleford Beavers put up nine runs, but it wasn’t enough, as the Junior Cards took Game 1 of their best-of-three, 13-9.

The series will now shift to Unity for Game 2 Thursday, with the first pitch at 6:30 p.m.

In other action around the league Tuesday night, the #1 Macklin Lakers topped the #8 Mervin Flyers 17-3 in Macklin, to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-three series.

Game 2 of that series will also be played Thursday at 6:30 p.m., as the scene shifts to Mervin.

Wednesday’s NSRBL action will see the Meadow Lake Sox take on the Standard Hill Lakers for Game 2 of their series, looking to stave off elimination and force a third and deciding game back on their home field.

Wednesday’s Game 2 will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Standard Hill.

Also in action, the #3 Wilkie Brewers will host the defending champion, #6 Kindersley Stallions for Game 1 of their series. The teams will play their first two games back-to-back, Wednesday and Thursday.

First pitch Wednesday will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Wilkie.
