ACT makes donation to Battlefords Minor Hockey

Jul 12, 2022 | 11:35 AM

The Associated Canadian Travelers (ACT) have made a $5,000 donation to Battlefords Minor Hockey.

The funds will go towards new jerseys for the girls’ minor hockey program at the grassroots level, ahead of the 2022-23 season.

“It’s for the kids in our community and I suppose a thank-you to the parents as well for playing bingo,” ACT member, Don Dament said with a smile.

Vice president of BMHA, Patricia Meiklejohn said the donation will go a long way as the girls’ program continues to grow at a younger age in the community.

“We’ve been expanding our female program a lot in the last few years; that’s our largest growth area and we’ve now gotten to the point where we have teams at every level,” she said.

“Girls are starting playing at U9, or some even at U7, and then U9 and U11, so this [donation] is earmarked for the younger age divisions, as the older ages have been around a little longer, and this is where the help is really appreciated. We’re very excited we get to have the little girls outfitted in their own jerseys so they can be part of the Sharks’ brand.”

Dament, Clayton Campbell, Wayne Lambie, and Glenn Hunter were on hand from the local Associated Canadian Travelers club to present the $5,000 donation cheque to Meiklejohn at Battleford Area.
