In just over nine weeks’ time, the stands at North Battleford’s Access Communications Centre will be alive with cheering fans for the start of another hockey season.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) announced its schedule for the 2022-23 regular-season, Monday.

With a 56-game schedule this year, the Stars will play each of their three division rivals in the Global Ag. Risk Solutions Division: the Kindersley Klippers, Humboldt Broncos and Notre Dame Hounds, an equal six times this year.

The North Stars will open their season with a home-and-home against the rival Klippers, playing their first game on September 16 in Kindersley, followed by their home opener, on Sept. 17 in North Battleford.

This will mark the tenth consecutive year the Stars and Klippers have played each other in a home-and-home to open the schedule, in one of the league’s longest-running opening weekend traditions.

Twelve of the Stars’ first 16 games will be played on their home ice, including their first game against Notre Dame, at home on Sept. 21. The Stars’ opening two games against the Broncos will be played in a home-and-home Oct. 28 (in North Battleford) and 29 (in Humboldt).

Outside of the divisional games, other schedule highlights of note for the team include the SJHL Showcase, which will be held September 25-28 in Warman, and the team’s Christmas break.

The Stars will play their final game ahead of Christmas Holidays, Dec. 17, returning to play in the New Year, at home for the first of another home-and-home against the Klippers, Jan. 6 and 7.
