Jun 20, 2022 | 1:34 PM

A public inquest into the death of Randy Wolfe is scheduled for late July in Lloydminster.

This will take place at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association (Lloyd Ex) July 18–22. The inquest begins at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, with subsequent start times to be determined by the presiding coroner.

The 19-year-old Wolfe was found unresponsive in his cell at the Onion Lake RCMP Detachment in Onion Lake on October 12, 2019. Medical personnel responded and upon completing an assessment, he was pronounced deceased.

Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999 states that the chief coroner shall hold an inquest into the death of a person who dies while an inmate at a jail or a correctional facility, unless the coroner is satisfied that the person’s death was due entirely to natural causes and was not preventable. An inquest is meant to establish who died, when and where they died and medical cause and manner of the death.

The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected deaths. Coroner Blaine Beaven will preside at the inquest.
