RCMP Report: Two suspects in stabbing incident

Feb 14, 2022 | 12:14 PM

Battlefords RCMP are searching for two suspects, following a stabbing incident in North Battleford.

The report came on Feb. 4, from a residence on the 1500 block of 103rd St. A male victim was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries that evening. While the two suspects have been identified, the detachment is continuing to investigate before deciding to apply charges.

Of the 23 assault investigations from Feb. 2-8, Battlefords RCMP had multiple cases where arrests were made. On Feb. 8, 40 year-old Leon Jimmy was arrested and charged with multiple assault-related charges, as well as resisting arrest, uttering threats and mischief. The accused reportedly threw a chair at another man on the 900 block of 102nd St. and threatened several persons present during the incident before fleeing. When located, he became violent during his arrest and was subdued and taken into custody after the deployment of a taser. Jimmy appeared in court on Feb. 9.

Other arrests include a 14 year-old youth charged found with a machete on Feb. 6, a 20 year-old woman found with machete that also attempted to flee arrest and provided a false name on Feb. 3 and a woman reportedly experiencing mental health issues on Feb. 8 who chased after a family member with a large knife. The latter incident remains under investigation.

An odd call for police occurred early in the morning on Feb. 6, where a reportedly intoxicated man called to say he’d been robbed around 11th Avenue and 103rd Street, by a woman whom he had paid money for an activity he was reluctant to tell police. After eventually revealing that he was attempting to purchase sex and told this was not a legal transaction, he changed his mind and decided the police weren’t needed.

Break-ins and thefts

Of the 468 calls for service during this period, police had four break and enters calls, as well as five vehicle theft calls.

A business on the 100 block of 25th St. in Battleford was broken into some time prior to Feb. 5, where some electronics were reported stolen or damaged.

On Feb. 3, a stolen vehicle was located by members patrolling in the Cochin district shortly after midnight, resulting in the suspect fleeing police, getting the vehicle stuck in snow and then fleeing on foot. The 22 year-old male suspect has been identified, while charges of flight and possession of stolen property are currently pending.

Police are still looking for a White 2007 Dodge Nitro (Sask License 986-MIM) reported stolen from Panton Avenue Feb. 5.

Additional incidents

Other calls for service included 16 mental health investigations, five missing persons reports, 12 traffic collisions, 49 various traffic charges and two Individuals charged with impaired driving.

One report of a male stealing extension cords on Pearson Avenue early in the morning of Feb. 6 resulted in the arrest of a 42 year-old man. Jason Peters of North Battleford was reportedly located with a backpack filled with extension cords and a concealed pistol, found to be a BB gun, and was remanded into custody. He made his first appearance in court on Feb. 7 on charges of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Anyone with information on any incident is urged to call the Battlefords RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
