Police still searching for woman charged with criminal negligence, assault

UPDATE: As of May 4, 2022 Charmaine Brett Bear was arrested in Calgary without incident and will appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 6 at 9:30 a.m.

Battlefords RCMP are still looking for Charmaine Brett Bear – or “Charmaine Spyglass”, who is wanted for charges stemming from an investigation of potential child abuse in late 2020.

A year ago, Bear was charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. Continued investigation has resulted in further charges, including aggravated assault, two counts of assault and two counts of uttering threats.

On Jan. 4, police extended Bear’s warrant into Alberta, as she was reportedly seen in Edmonton. She is also known to frequent the Battlefords, Lloydminster, Mosquito First Nation and Saskatoon areas. It’s believed she’s actively evading police and travelling to and from these areas.

Reportedly known to change her appearance, Bear is described as 5’6″, 123 lbs with a slender build, typically sporting baggy clothing and sunglasses indoors. She also has brown eyes and long, black hair that she is known to wear tucked up under a ball cap.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts can call the Battlefords RCMP detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
