Jan 12, 2022 | 4:00 PM

A 35 year-old man in Battleford was arrested on Jan. 9, following an assault involving a knife.

The detachment received a call that morning from a residence on the 300 block of 32nd St. in Battleford, reporting a male suffering from several stab wounds. Police located the 42 year old victim with injuries to his legs and torso and immediately arrested the suspect on scene. The victim was subsequently transported to hospital for treatment, from which he has since been released.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay told battlefordsNOW the incident began as a family argument.

“The injuries were serious, but [the victim] will recover,” he said.

Vernon Firingstoney is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of uttering threats. He was held in custody and appeared in court on Monday Jan. 10.

There were 25 assault investigations this past week, out of 473 total calls for service. In one of those cases, police were called to the 900 block of 102nd St. in North Battleford on Jan. 6, where 27 year-old Kyle Sayers was arrested for reportedly assaulting another male with a fire extinguisher. As a result of the incident and charges, Sayers was held in custody and appeared in court on Jan. 7.

Police also charged a 51 year-old male with assault and resisting arrest in Battleford on Jan. 9, for reportedly assaulting a man in his 70’s and briefly struggling with members on the scene. He was released from custody and appears in court Feb. 14.
