Aleena Clara Jenny Harris is the Battlefords New Year’s Day baby.

Weighing nine pounds and five ounces, Aleena was born at 2:32 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 1 at Battlefords Union Hospital.

Parents Renata Quinney and Raymon Harris, from Witchekan Lake First Nation, said this is their first baby, and having the first baby of the new year made the occasion especially thrilling for the couple.

“I feel so blessed, excited and happy to finally be a dad,” Harris told battlefordsNOW. “We’ve been trying for a while, and we finally got blessed with a little angel.”

Quinney said Aleena is a happy little baby and is settling in nicely.

“Being our first baby, she is doing really well,” she said.

She said some other women arrived at the hospital before her to have their babies, so she wasn’t expecting to have the first baby of 2022.

“After we passed the midnight mark, I thought this won’t be the new year’s baby,” she said.

Later, when her doctor told Quinney that she gave birth to the new year’s baby here in the Battlefords, she said she and her family were absolutely thrilled.

‘We were all just so happy,” she said. “We were surprised because it was so late in the afternoon.”
