Woman wanted for failing to provide necessities evading search

Jan 4, 2022 | 12:08 PM

Battlefords RCMP are seeking public assistance in the search for Charmaine Brett Bear, whose warrant is extended to Alberta.

The 34-year-old from Battleford, also known as Charmaine Spyglass, was charged back in January of 2021 with failing to provide the necessaries of life and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. A release was issued the following month and while several tips have been followed up on, Bear has not been located.

As a result of continued investigation, she now faces additional charges, including aggravated assault and two counts each of assault and uttering threats. This came about in December of 2020, when Battlefords RCMP and General Investigation Services received a report of alleged child abuse.

In addition to going by “Spyglass”, Bear is described as 5’6” tall, 123 lbs with a slender build, as well as having long, black hair and brown eyes. Based on the investigation thus far, she’s reportedly known to wear baggy clothing, sport sunglasses indoors and have her hair tucked up under a ball cap.

Police said the extension for the warrant to go Alberta-wide comes from the investigation determining Bear was seen in Edmonton. She is also known to frequent the Lloydminster, North Battleford, Mosquito First Nation and Saskatoon areas.

At this time, police believe she is actively evading law enforcement. They also believe she is traveling between, and staying, in some or all of these locations.

Male charged in relation to same investigation

The accused is believed to be traveling with 34 year-old Lyle Aaron Bear, who was arrested and charged in relation to this investigation last year in January. There is no warrant for his arrest and he faces multiple charges, including:

  • Failing to provide the necessaries of life
  • Criminal negligence causing bodily harm
  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault (x2)
  • Uttering threats (x2)
  • Assault with a weapon (x2)

He will appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. The two may have several children with them.

Where to report tips:

Battlefords RCMP stated in a release that anyone who has information on Charmaine Bear’s whereabouts may be eligible for a cash reward for tips and information submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers. Residents can also call their nearest police service or RCMP Detachment to report any relevation information.
