North Stars McNinch named SJHL Community Ambassador

North Stars forward, Ryland McNinch, has been named to the SJHL’s RBC Community Ambassador Team for his meaningful volunteer efforts in the Battlefords community.

As a result, McNinch was allocated $1,000 to donate to a charitable cause in the community through the SJHL and RBC Ambassador Program. The soon-to-be third-year North Star selected the Living Sky School Division.

A product of nearby Turtleford, Sask. just an hour north of the Battlefords, McNinch said he’s happy to be able to be able to give back to the community of the team he grew up cheering for, now as a member of the North Stars’ black and silver.

“I’ve always been a North Stars fan, just being close here in Turtleford and I’ve been in the Battlefords lots so it’s a community I’m pretty familiar with and just getting out volunteering means a lot to me,” McNInch said.

Whether reading to students at the local elementary schools, walking dogs at the animal shelter, building ginger bread houses, or playing some floor hockey, McNinch has been very visible in the community over his time with the Stars. (Facebook/Battlefords North Stars)

“Getting out in the community is something big for me, and especially to get out and be with the kids, so it was awesome to be able to give that donation to the Living Sky School Division. That meant a lot too.” — Ryland McNinch

Other SJHL players named as Community Ambassadors include: Melville’s Luke Nkwama, Kindersley’s Jaxon Georget, Humboldt’s Reid Arnold, La Ronge’s Logan Holm, Flin Flon’s Reid Robertson, Nipawin’s Jake Tremblay, Weyburn’s Braden Bernie, Yorkton’s Colby Vranai, Notre Dame’s Qaritaq Kusugak-Clark, Estevan’s Caleb Petrie and Melfort’s Ben Chase.

McNinch and his North Stars’ teammates will return to the Access Communications Centre to open their SJHL season Sept. 24 versus the rival Kindersley Klippers.

Each of the North Stars 58 games this season will be available on the NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast on 1050 CJNB.
