Big River RCMP responds to a firearms complaint

Three individuals from Big River are facing numerous criminal charges following the discharge of firearms at the Big River First Nation.

According to Big River RCMP, the incident took place on July 8 at 11:30 a.m. when a vehicle drove up to a residence in the community and the suspects smashed in a window and fired into the residence before leaving the property.

The vehicle was later located at another property on the First Nation and the suspects were taken into custody. A fourth female was also located at the residence but an investigation revealed she was assaulted and forcibly confined there for a short time.

“A search warrant was then executed at this residence on the evening of July 8. Three firearms, several imitation firearms and ammunition were seized as part of this investigation,” stated the RCMP release.

Sandra Campbell, 37, is facing 20 counts of various offences, including discharge of a firearm with intent to endanger life, assault with weapon, assault, mischief under $5,000, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, careless use of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm/weapon, kidnapping without a firearm, uttering threats and pointing a firearm.

Christopher Vandale, 37, and Harold Rabbitskin, 32, are also facing several charges; Vandale for forcible confinement, unsafe storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and failure to comply with release order. Rabbitskin for resisting a peace officer, unsafe storage of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

All three are scheduled to make appearances in court today, July 13.
