North Stars defenceman, Timon Prexler has committed to Maryville University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) for the fall.

A product of Coquitlam, BC., Prexler spent the last two seasons with the Stars, where he was the lone 20-year-old defenceman on the roster prior to the pandemic cancelation last season.

Prexler said after visiting the Maryville campus and meeting some of his potential teammates and the coaching staff, it was an easy decision to commit to the Saints for next season.

“It was a really good experience; I got to meet all the guys, check out their facility and campus, and their coach seems like a really good guy, too,” Prexler said. “I really just liked everything about their program. It just seems like a great group, and a nice place too as St. Louis is pretty beautiful.”

Though he may be exploring a new environment, both on the ice and off, Timon will have some familiar faces upon arrival. His brother, TJ Prexler will also suit up with the Saints next year as a junior, while other teammates from Prexler’s days in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL)—prior to joining the Stars—will also be there to help ease the transition.

Prexler scored seven goals and had 15 points In 41 career games with the North Stars, after having 33 in 30 games his lone year in WSHL with Bellingham in 2018-19.

Following the SJHL cancelation this year, Prexler capped his junior career on loan to the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes of the U.S. Premier Hockey League, where he helped lead the team to the semifinals at nationals with six points in seven games.

Head coach of the North Stars, Brayden Klimosko said he’s looking forward to seeing Prexler take his game to the next level in university, with the potential to make a real impact with the Saints.

“I’m excited for him. I know he wanted to move on to play some collegiate hockey, so it’s nice to be able to see him pursue that dream of his,” Klimosko said. “I think he’ll be really good there and would’ve had a really big season for us this year if not for the cancelled season.”

Maryville University is located in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2019-20, the Saints finished second in the Midwest College Hockey Conference.
