North Stars ink five from Saskatoon/Warman area

Apr 23, 2021 | 1:00 PM

The Battlefords North Stars have announced a number of new player signings this week, including nine from the local region, five of whom come directly from the Saskatoon/Warman communities, less than an hour and a half away.

Head coach and general manager of the Stars, Brayden Klimosko said he likes the versatility included in this year’s crop of rookie commitments.

“I think it’s just a great mix, as we’ve got some guys who will be able to put the puck in the net and some who will be able to compete really hard and play up and down the lineup,” Klimosko said.

“It’s also nice to have the Saskatchewan content we were able to find this year with all of these signings. You can’t find Saskatchewan kids anywhere else [outside the province] and we feel really fortunate,” the coach added.

Riley Girod

At just 17-years-of-age, forward Riley Girod has already established himself against older competition having played just under 90 games at the U18 AAA level since late 2017-18.

Girod made his SJHL debut with the North Stars in late 2019-20, after scoring 10 points in 36 games with the Saskatoon Contacts U18 AAA team. Girod was drafted by the North Stars in the sixth round of the 2018 SJHL Bantam Draft, #71 overall.
