North Stars look for bounce back performance on the road against Warman

Oct 16, 2026 | 2:23 PM

The Battlefords North Stars hit the road this weekend to face the Warman Wolverines in a Nutrien Division matchup.

The North Stars, who have lost four straight games, are trying to avoid a fifth straight loss, which would be their first skid of that length since a six-game slide in the 2023-24 season.

“We’re not going to sugarcoat the frustration we’ve had. We have played a lot of good hockey and not gotten rewarded for it,” North Stars head coach Connor Logan said.

“I think there’s an accumulation effect that’s taken place here. We’ve got to work through that adversity and we’ve got to come up big. We’ve put ourselves in a bad spot here coming out of the gates, and I think guys have got to start taking it personally, honestly taking it upon themselves individually to go out there and make a difference.”

Logan said one of the team’s biggest recent issues has been playing good stretches of hockey without capitalizing on opportunities.

“It’s had us questioning how good we are when I know deep down how good a team we can be, and I hope that we can start to show that,” he said.

“Always a good time coming to the rink, but we’ve got to find that killer instinct here to go out and recognize how good we are.”

The North Stars fell 4-0 to the Wolverines the last time the teams met on Sept. 27, and are ready to put that performance behind them.

“I can’t wait to showcase the level that we are at. I know they’ve had a lot of success, and I have a lot of respect for Brett and their program,” Logan said.

“They have a good record, and it’s up to us to go out there and go tit for tat and showcase that we’re an elite team and we belong near the top of the standings.”

The North Stars will welcome back leading point-getter Raiden Zacharias after a two-game absence. His one goal and six assists for seven points in five games are tied with Michiel Leenders for the team lead.

“It’s nice to have one of your top players back. It’s always tough when you lose a guy like that,” Logan said.

“He brings a good presence, and he’s a great character kid. Obviously, he’s played elite hockey so far this year, and we’re hoping he can carry that through and come in and be on his game and give us the bump that we need heading into the weekend.”

The North Stars’ alternate captain said the team is feeling good after a solid week of practice.

“I think we’ve had a pretty good week, pretty strong. Everyone’s kind of gelling. Good confidence,” Zacharias said.

“We know it’s on us to pick it up, so it just comes from within. Coaches are doing their part, so it’s on us to do ours.”

The North Stars will try to avoid their fifth straight loss Friday night in Warman. The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m., with the puck dropping for NAPA Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 p.m. on 93.3 Beach Radio.
