Proceeds from Chris Beaudry event donated to CMHA Battlefords Branch

Tuesday afternoon, sponsors from last month’s Chris Beaudry mental health talk presented a check for $1,300 to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Battlefords Branch.

Beaudry’s event was held at the Dekker Centre on March 25, and was sponsored by Maunula Electric, Hawtin Plumbing Services and Pattison Media.

Over 300 tickets were sold, between the socially distanced in-house seating and live-stream ticket purchases, with all proceeds being donated to the local mental health organization.

Kelli Hawtin of Hawtin Plumbing Services, said it was great to see so many from the community want to take in the event, which she and her husband Mitch had originally looked at as a staff function, before the idea really took off to be open to the whole community.

“I think it’s really positive that we started with just staff development and then had the spin off to even more people participating and now a donation to the CMHA,” Hawtin said. “It was exciting to see it really grow.”

Jaime Maunula of Maunula Electric, said while mental health is always an important topic, it has been an especially prevalent one over the last year or so due to the pandemic.

“People seem to be really aware of just how important their mental health is in addition to their physical fitness, and I just hope this is something that continues and that we can keep erasing that stigma that sometimes surrounds talking about mental health,” Maunula said.

Executive Director at the CMHA Battlefords Branch, Jane Zielke de Montbrun said the organization is grateful for the donation Tuesday, and continued support from the Dekker Centre, the event sponsors, and the community.

“It’s really overwhelming in some respects to see how this community supports the Canadian Mental Health Association of the Battlefords, and the work that we do here to support people’s mental health,” Zielke de Montbrun said. “This donation will really help us in the sustainability of our new project, the Living Well Learning Centre, and we’re super excited to be able to do that here.”

She said the project will provide free courses for people around mental health and recovery, helping them to learn more about mental illness and tips for how to be mentally healthy.
