LILY"S LOUD MOUTH

Northeast Sask. woman publishes children’s book

A northeast Saskatchewan mindfulness educator, bodytalk practitioner, business owner, and mental health advocate is adding author to her title.

The children’s book Lily’s Loud Mouth by Laura Lawrence of MindBody Balance Therapies in Melfort is now available for purchase worldwide.

Lawrence gave a bit of insight into the book ahead of the launch later this month.

“It’s about a little girl who has a superpower that is as big as her dreams,” Lawrence said. “That superpower is her voice.”

The writing process for Lawrence began last spring when she found herself at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic with a bit of extra time on her hands.

The inspiration behind the book stems from the over 20 years of working with children as a teacher and now as an advocate for youth in mental health services.

“I just wanted to write something fun and inspiring for children,” Lawrence said. “Especially for little girls to really help celebrate their inner confidence, self-esteem, and to help empower them to speak up about things that matter to them most.”

Pre-sale orders have been underway for the past little while and Lawrence has around 300 copies already ordered.

“I’m just so excited for all of my family, friends, loved ones, and followers to see some of the special and unique details in the book that are special parts of my life,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence will host a launch virtual pajama party on March 13 at 9:30 a.m. where she will read the book to families. There will be fun activities to go along with the launch as well.

“That date is so important to me because it is the date of my Oma’s birthday,” Lawrence said. “She is a huge inspiration to both books that will come out this year and she also appears as one of the characters in the books.”

Registration for the virtual launch can be found at lauralawrence.ca. The event is free to attend but pre-registration is required to get the zoom link for the morning event.

A second children’s book that will be published by Lawrence is actually the first one that she penned.

“The little boy that shows up in Lily’s Loud Mouth, the little brother, the next book is about him,” Lawrence said. “He goes on a journey of emotions and his grandma helps him out with a few tips and tricks along the way.”

Lawrence is aiming to have her second book launch in September as it is just going into illustration.

“I have enjoyed my writing time and the learning curve while meeting some Saskatchewan authors along the way,” Lawrence said. “I think that we can really celebrate more of the talent that we have right outside our front doors here in Saskatchewan.”

On top of the upcoming book launch, Lawrence is continuing with her Strong as a Mother coffee and conversation series on a virtual basis.

“The last one in February was fantastic and was a fundraiser for STARS Air Ambulance and featured a panel of Saskatchewan authors,” Lawrence said.

The next Strong as a Mother event is being held tomorrow night and Lawrence is optimistic the April event can be in-person but will depend on the COVID-19 public health guidelines.

On March 8, Lawrence will make a presentation for the North East Outreach and Support Services international women’s day celebration. She will be presenting on growth mind-set for building resiliency.
